I have no idea what I’m doing

June 1, 2009 at 9:44 pm (I need help, Just so you know, My blog is not universal)

I have a habit of starting something new and abandoning it 5 minutes after investing a bunch of money into it.  Tony points this out constantly.  Let’s see, there was stamping, knitting, crocheting, glass painting, sewing.  The list goes on and on.

When I was pregnant, I starting blogging on my myspace.  I know, I’m like so totally cool.  I figured it would be like every other thing I start and I would quit in a month.  Then a year went by.  I decided if I was still blogging when I hit a year of non-myspace blogging,  I would buy my own domain and find a host and all that.  And 7 months after that, I finally went through with it.

I think the biggest reason I decided to make the switch was so I can go annonymous.  Not like I won’t tell you where it is or anything.  I just don’t want to use our real names anymore.  I don’t even care if you hear them in a video.  I just don’t want my blog to show up on a search for our names.  It’s not for me or Tony really.  It’s because kids are cruel and google is powerful.  I don’t want some bratty teenager searching Eliana’s name and finding pooping stories (or a video, ahem) and I don’t want her teenage self to have to deal with that.  So after I make the switch, I will leave this here for a month-ish and then set it to private.

Except I apparently don’t know what I’m doing.  I can not for the life of me figure out how to get wordpress to work or maybe my host is broken or the site I bought the domain name from OMG kill me now.  I’ve already paid for a year.  And time is ticking.  And I am just as lost as I was 2 weeks ago when I started.  And if you want to help me I WILL LET YOU.  I’m going to keep trying and I’ll let you know when I have it figured out.

(I know it is ironic that I say I’m consistently blogging after having not blogged for a week, but my laptop has been away at the fix-it place.  Still under warranty.  Go me!  But it’s back now and I promise I will be a better blogger.)

Ok, well… you bought the domain so you need to go through wordpress and tell them you own the domain. They will most likely tell you to change the CNAME of the domain, which you do with the company you bought the domain with. Once that is changed you can use this blog with that domain.

If you are utilizing WordPress.org, whole different story. Can’t help you there. Haven’t gone that route yet.

Hope that helps? Or doesn’t, as the case may be? :P
