Yay distance!

May 8, 2009 at 3:11 pm (Uncategorized)

Every Thursday my sisters go to my mom’s for dinner.  They watch TV and hang out and talk and catch up on each others lives (though they see and talk to each other all the time, so there probably isn’t much catching up that needs to be done).  For years and years I have been so jealous.  I always feel like I’m missing out on a normal family thing.

Sometimes, when I need a trustworthy sitter or someone to talk to, I really wish I lived closer to my family.  I feel like Eliana is missing out on developing important relationships.  That’s one reason we try to be stationed closer to family.  I want her to have the opportunity to know her grandparents and aunts and cousins.

But today, I’m going to make a list.  Pros of living far from family.  To make me feel better.

  • Sisters = Drama.  It’s nice to be on the outskirts of that and not pulled in to the drama.
  • I rarely have to listen to “When  are you going to turn her car seat around?  She should/shouldn’t be eating that.  Maybe you should (fill in the blank with any unwanted parenting advice).”
  • I’ve heard stories of women being forced to go to the in-laws or host parties for other family members on Mother’s Day.  Here, it really is just my day and as long as I remember the cards early enough and send flowers, I’m good.
  • No one here knows me from when I was in diapers or did some other embarrassing thing growing up.
  • I always have my Thursdays free?

Ok, I’m grasping for the last one, but there are good points.

I think I just miss my family today.

I am never doing that again

…Even if I did have more teeth!

When I was 16, my wisdom teeth really started bugging me.  I went to the dentist to maybe get them taken out.  He said “We’ll just wait until they come in a bit more.”  And he kept saying it until I didn’t have insurance and had no choice but to live with the pain.  It’s like he didn’t want my money.  Asshole.

So for 12 or so years, I lived with the pain and mostly just dealt with it.  Yes, I’ve had insurance for 7 years now and I could have had them removed lots of times.  Except my insurance isn’t great and I thought it would costs thousands of dollars and there was always something shiny I’d rather buy.  Priorities, man.

Tony decided after listening to me whine and complain about my teeeeth!  and how much they huuurt! he would just make me a damn appointment and screw the shiny things.  So they managed to get me in the very next day for x-rays and an exam.  The nice dentist lady said they could remove them the very next day.  I don’t know how I got so “lucky”.  Because when I want a nail appointment there are no openings for a month, but need to get some teeth pulled and they’ll do it the next day.

So it all started out fine.  Some kinda topical numbing stuff all over, followed by the needle.  Not a big deal, actually.  Then they took out the first 2, and I’m just glossing over some stuff because I’m not trying to freak people out or anything.  Then when he was checking to make sure I was still numb for the 3rd? and I told him it hurt, but just a little? and then he started and it did not hurt a little?  but it hurt a lot and I maybe started panicking! because WHAT IF HE DOESN”T STOP AND THEN I DIE?  What then, huh?

But he did stop.  And then he hit me with the sweet, sweet needle.   That was the only bump in the rode and I lived to tell the tale and all is well (mostly).  And!  It cost me $150.  Not thousands and thousands of dollars.  That is awesome.  Plus, I think I must have got the good drugs because I slept all day yesterday.  Tony took care of Eliana and he even did the dishes.  I haven’t had to take anything stronger than ibuprofen today, even though I still hurt a little and I’m positive I have food stuck in there somewhere and I don’t know how to get it out.  I’m not allowed to swish, spit, or use a straw.

For anyone who is maybe going to get their wisdom teeth removed, I highly recommend getting knocked out.  Also, get them all done at once.  If I had only had 2 removed, I never would have gone back to finish the job.

And make sure they give you the good stuff.

It was softer than you’d think

April 21, 2009 at 5:50 pm (Uncategorized)

After a couple of days of crappy weather, last weekend was actually kinda nice, so we decided to take Eliana to the fair. We went last year and had a decent time. It was kind of a bust since my little shorty McShorty was too short to ride even the kiddiest of rides. She played one of those duck games where you always win and got a puppy and a fish. There was a monkey there that you can get your picture taken with, so of course we did that. Eliana really liked the monkey. What she did not like was the lady touching her. We weren’t supposed to touch the monkey. What toddler would reach out for the monkey? None toddlers, that’s who.

After that we mostly just walked around for about an hour and got bored. The real excitement started after we pulled into the driveway. As Tony was taking her out of the carseat, she had a coughing fit and threw up all over herself. Awesome. Not sure what the hell that was about since she was fit e after that. Kids. *shrug*

I don’t remember this

March 9, 2009 at 1:52 am (Uncategorized)

I feel like my ovaries are going to explode.

This is day two of the volitile possibly exploding ovaries.  I assume this means I’m going to ovulate soon (I hope) and that the clomid is doing it’s job.  I just do not remember this from last time.  Although, I don’t actually remember anything from last time.  I didn’t have a blog back then.

So for next time (whether it’s next month or 3 years from now), the only side effect I’ve experienced this time was a killer headache the day after I took the first pill.  I may have been a little moody early on, but it wasn’t too terrible.  And now my ovaries hurt.

But I mean they REALLY hurt.  If my bladder gets too full, I run completely out of room and almost die.  And let me just say, baby-making is SO NOT FUN when your ovaries hurt.  It’s like a JOB, people.  A painful job.  And the only reason I even do it is because clomid sucks and I don’t want to have to deal with another cycle of the aching ovaries.

This post has a lot of ovaries.

Ovaries ovaries ovaries.

We have a winner! (again)

March 2, 2009 at 11:14 pm (Uncategorized)

So wordpress ate my last post and then posted something different and I am annoyed. There was the whole winner announcement and then linking and the prize and even what we did in Houston. And wordpress just decided it wasn’t good enough even though it SO WAS. I don’t even want to post the whole thing over again. But since I have to tell you who won and what the prize is, I’ll do the stupid post. Again.

*grumble grumble*

And the winner is!

Valerie! Congratulations! You are the lucky winner of a camera strap from Phat Straps. I have this one and I love it. I highly recommend the optional minky lining. It makes it so soft and comfy. I’ll email you the details as soon as I finish posting.

I really liked doing the whole giveaway thing. I’m thinking of making it a semi-regular thing. It’s kinda fun giving stuff away, especially stuff I dig.

Our Houston trip was nice. We didn’t do much. Just shopping, bowling, and we took Eliana to the Children’s Museum. The area we stayed in was very clean. Is that a weird thing to say? Unfortunately, the pictures are still on my camera and I am lazy. So here, stuff from my cell phone.

Yes, she was sleeping in the cart at Target. Naps were a little off.

Anyway, very happy to be home and all that.  We have just a enough time to settle in and get the house nice and clean before we leave again.

Passing it along

February 21, 2009 at 9:00 am (Uncategorized)

So a while back I won a contest-ish sorta thing that Krissa was doing. I promised to post pictures and show it off, oh, 2 weeks ago. Am slowest blogger in the whole wide world. I took the pics and everything just when I said I would. And then I left them on my camera. For weeks. So so lame.

For my mutterings, I won these 2 pretty pretty paintings.

They don’t really blend into the wall color the way the pictures look. I think I was blind the day I took these and just didn’t notice they’re a little blurry. I suck. The paintings do not suck. They are pretty and beautiful and calming. Thanks Krissa!

And since it seems to be the Way Things Are Done in the blogosphere, I’ll be doing my own little giveaway to pass along the happy. I don’t have anything picked out as of yet, but I’m thinking something from Etsy. I love Etsy.

To enter, leave a comment. Shocking, right? You can just say hi or whatever, but since I always feel weird leaving comments without something to say, I’ll give you a question.

If you could visit any city in the world, where would you go and why?

This is in honor of our little mini trip to Houston next week.  Please don’t steal my stuff while I’m away.  I have big, vicious, snarly dogs.

What do you think about in the shower?

January 22, 2009 at 11:48 pm (Uncategorized)

I asked Tony and he said he usually thinks about his plans for the day. I always think about religion, politics, death, etc.

What about you?
